Adoption

Thank you for your interest! We are thrilled that you are considering giving a glider a loving forever home.

Sugar gliders are non-solitary animals primarily because they are highly social creatures that naturally live in colonies or groups in the wild. They have evolved to rely on social interaction and cooperation for survival and well-being. Being solitary can lead to loneliness, stress, and even depression in these animals. Interacting with other gliders helps fulfill their social and emotional needs.

It is important for owners of sugar gliders to understand their social nature and provide them with appropriate socialization opportunities. This can include owning multiple gliders, providing plenty of social interaction and playtime, and ensuring they have a stimulating environment that mimics their natural social dynamics.

For this reason, sugar gliders are sold in pairs, unless you already have one.

  1. Application: The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application. This form helps us gather necessary information about you, your experience with sugar gliders, and your living situation to ensure that we find the right match for both you and the glider. An application needs to be filled out, wether looking into adopting a glider that is currently available, or to be put on a waitlist for a specific glider. There are no purchases straight from the website, each transaction will be processed after all adoption steps have been successfully completed. If at any point during the adoption process PNW Gliders deems that the adopter, home, or circumstance is unsuitable for a safe glider environment, the adoption process will be canceled at no charge.

  2. Interview: Once we receive your application, we will schedule an interview to discuss your application in more detail. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you better and address any questions or concerns you may have. We will provide recommendations and guidance to ensure that your home is glider-proofed and ready to welcome your new pet.

  3. Adoption Fee: Please refer to the “FOR SALE” section on our webpage to see the adoption fee that is individual to each glider, depending on their color and history. The fee helps to cover the cost of caring and raising the glider, and get the male gliders neutered. For gliders in our rescue, the fee helps to cover the cost of caring for the glider and vet appointments.

  4. Adoption Agreement: If your application is approved, we will ask you to sign an adoption agreement. This agreement outlines your responsibilities as an adopter and our commitment to supporting you throughout your glider's life.

At this point we require a 25% deposit.

  5. Education and Support: We believe that education is key to providing the best care for sugar gliders. As part of our adoption process, we will provide you with help of properly outfitting the cage, resources, information, and ongoing support to ensure that you have the knowledge and tools to provide a happy and healthy life for your glider. Please also consult the “EDU” section on our webpage.

  6. Breeding rights: TBD

  7. Pick-up / Shipping: Unless breeding rights have been purchased, male gliders come neutered. For female gliders, our adoption agreement includes a non-breeding clause. While we prefer pick-up to ensure the health and safety of our gliders, shipping is an option that will need to be discussed on an individual basis. Additional fees will incur if a glider has to be shipped.

Please note that we prioritize the welfare of our gliders and carefully consider each adoption. We want to ensure that our gliders are placed in the best possible homes where they will receive the love, care, and attention they need.
